Grant Shapps MP Visits Netwise Hosting

After our official opening back in May 2012 by Mayor of London Boris Johnson, it had been a fair while since a VIP guest passed through our South London offices.

Grant Shapps and Paul Scully visit Netwise Hosting SouthThis week saw another Government heavyweight visit our award-winning data centre, this time being Grant Shapps MP, Conservative Party Co-Chairman. His visit to our facility formed part of an on-going Government initiative to encourage more young people into business, with Netwise Hosting’s unique story being used as an example of success.

Paul Scully, who is running for local MP of Sutton and Cheam – the affluent home borough of Netwise Hosting’s facility – also visited the site. Scully has been a long-time supporter of Netwise Hosting, and hopes to use the business as a glowing example of successful enterprise in Sutton.

Not only did the two visitors and their associates gain a better understanding for the business during their morning with the management team – they also enjoyed a full tour of the data centre, a first for many in the group. Emphasis was placed on the sites use of modern, green technologies to deliver some of London’s most affordable colocation space.

System and Service Resilience Improvements

The commitment we make to our customers here at Netwise Hosting is unfaltering, and we take great pride in our data centre and the systems within it. As such, we like to evolve and develop over time, adding to systems and processes to improve quality of service and reliability.

We have a number of new developments reaching completion in January, which will solidify the resilience of our supporting infrastructure in line with the levels of resilience already built into customer-side server, colocation, and online backup services.

Added Phone Support

We have improved our supporting infrastructure this January, with a secondary layer added to our phone support system. Emergency calls will now route through for direct contact with NOC technicians after a short holding period on our main line (0845 430 9900).

This is a preventative measure, which bridges a gap in our previous setup which could cause a phone system blackout if connectivity on our diverse uplinks were to become compromised (an almost impossible event, but something we must negate none-the-less).

Globally Diverse DNS on all Web Services

Our website, My Netwise Hosting Control Panel, Live Chat and all other customer-face online systems now sit behind a state-of-the-art globally diverse DNS system, which prevents any downtime should a DNS server fail. This ensures online support systems are readily accessible, regardless of any DNS faults. DNS fault correction is almost instantaneous on this new system.

Should our web servers fail in any way, our new DNS system will then divert traffic to our new Live System Status Information portal, detailed below;

Live System Status Information

Development has just finished on a new live system status portal, which provides users with the ability to check up on the operational health of all critical systems and services – both internal and external of the data centre – in real-time. It also provides users with an emergency support ticketing submission form should any other avenues of support become compromised in any way.

Data Centre Video(s)

We are still working to release a new data centre video shortly. Unfortunately, production got held up over Christmas, though we expect to have the first of a range of planned videos released next month. We will post links to the completed project once production is complete.

Online Backup Updates

As well as a recent update to our Online Backup software, we also have plans to reposition the service, both in terms of package options and service cost. We will relay more information on this matter once it becomes publicly available.

PowerToolsTM Coming Soon

PowerTools is our long awaited expansion to our world-famous Colocation Calculator. This new development will add advanced power calculation tools to the estimation of colocation services, helping those who are not 100% sure on how much power their proposed deployment will use. PowerTools is set to become one of the worlds most-used online tools for estimating colocation services. We hope to have more information on this free service very soon.
